Though this year has continued to have its challenges, the year has surprisingly gone by pretty quickly.
Ripley is now four years old. He did not get to have a typical big birthday party, but was happy to have a chocolate mousse cake and pizza dinner. We changed medical insurance to Kaiser this year and he was able to go in person for his four year old well check. He is staying a little below, but close to average percentile for height and weight.
He celebrated his fourth heartiversary and he got a new lion stuffie named Loveheart that he loves so much.
Ripley had his annual cardiology check-up, which was his first visit with his new pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Desai. Ripley did great patiently laying down while he had his echocardiogram and electrocardiogram done. His heart is functioning well and Dr. Desai told us about things we will want to watch out for as he gets older. I also asked him about COVID and impacts on heart warriors: currently, for heart warriors who are otherwise healthy, there isn't evidence that they have much worse prognoses than other children who contract COVID. Nonetheless, we want to be careful and not put ourselves at risk. Ripley has been doing pretty well wearing a mask when we are out and about.
With flu season and COVID together, it is nerve wracking this fall and winter. We are hoping to stay safe and sane as this unpredictable time continues.
