Now that he is (almost) 15 months old, he is a pretty wiggly guy and we had to come prepared to keep him occupied during the tests. First, the patient room had a TV equipped with a DVD player so he was able to watch a movie. Second, I brought his snack cup with puffs and Cheerios, as well as his milk in a 360 cup. Third, I also brought some toys for him to play with. He stayed relatively cooperative for the testing, though there were some times that he tried to grab the wand, roll around, and get away.
The night and morning before visiting the cardiologist are always stressful because you have no idea about how your child's heart is doing. Thankfully, Ripley's heart function and development has been positive. His doctor told him, "the status of your heart is fantastic right now."
Ripley was crying while we were going over the results so I don't have any of the numerical data, but there was nothing to highlight regarding his pulmonary artery growth, blood flow velocity, valve leakage. His doctor said that we shouldn't be too worried about his heart for now, though he will still need to be monitored over time. Ripley's heart murmur is still quite loud, but Dr. Li says that is not indicative of his heart function having issues.
He has been cleared to wait for one year until his next cardiac visit. We are so so grateful that our son is doing well, heart-wise. Of course, I am always nervous about every facet of his development anyways. As Dr. Li said though, we should do our best to enjoy this time.
